Anabeth can both see, hear, and speak with the souls of the deceased that had unfinished business.  Usually 'unfinished business' extends from murder victims who want justice, to soldiers who didn't get to say good bye to loved ones.  Just anyone who had regrets when they died.

For her to see or hear a ghost, she has to be within 40 feet of wherever the ghost is 'tethered' - usually wherever their body is.  As for what she 'sees', the ghost usually resembles it's decomposing body - which can vary in its unpleasantness depending how long the body has been in the ground and what sort of ailments put them in the ground to begin with.  If the spirit is tethered in some other way (through a medium or other item), she'll see it in the form the ghost had in life.  She can't 'turn off' her power either.

Of course, when she talks to a spirit it just looks like she's speaking to the air since the majority of individuals cannot see or hear ghosts.  It only took a few threats of being thrown into an insane asylum for her to realize that she shouldn't even mention her power in front of others, let alone demonstrate it.

Weapon:  None she keeps on her person, but if a situation calls for it she can always improvise and  use her hands.  Considering she has survived nearly a century on her own, she's pretty capable of both attacking people and defending herself. Plus when all else fails, she'll just kick the person in the shin and skip away.

Incidentally, she's quite accomplished with swordplay. She has recently acquired a silver-bladed rapier, though she does not carry it with her.  No, she wants to get some practice in with it before she does that.

Personality:

[Cheery] - Regardless of any situation she finds herself in, Anabeth has a giant smile on her face and a sunny attitude about everything.  It confuses people and she likes that.

[Arrogant] - She finds it amusing when people try to tell her what to do, and will usually just skip right past them without a care in the world.  To her, anyone trying to force her to do anything or 'put her in her place' or try to hurt her is laughable and she refuses to take any such threats seriously.  Of course if they actually do attempt to she has no issues putting that person down.  Hard.

[Deceptive] - She loves it when people underestimate her because of her mannerisms, appearance and gender.  She's much smarter than she acts and a lot stronger than she looks because of her vampire abilities.  It just makes it easier for her to mess with people.

[Overly Morbid] - Anabeth has rather 'creative' means of describing varying forms of injury, death, methods of killing people, and just things in general.  Not to mention she's happy to include these in regular 'polite' conversations - all in a very happy tone of voice.

[Sadistic] - Under her cute exterior lies a very twisted individual.  When she has to eat, she prefers to search for victims in the city instead of dealing with donors just because she enjoys ripping them apart.  Of course, she uses SOME sense when picking her food and usually picks those no one would miss.

[Loner] - With her appearance stuck the way it is, she has difficulty interacting with other vampires - especially ones within her own age range.  She knows she's a rare case of a child vampire surviving past 100, and the only reason she did was because she kept to herself.  So, she tends to keep to herself within the coven.

[Unstable] - Between being stuck looking like an underage girl for nearly 150 years, hearing ghosts, witnessing several bloody wars and suffering nearly two decades of abuse, Anabeth has a few screws loose.  She does try to keep herself under control, but once she's triggered she has no problem ripping into the person who ticked her off - sometimes literally if the situation permits it.  However if certain memories are brought up, she tends to slip into a state of unresponsive-ness, where she's difficult to interact with.

History:

Born on October 13th, 1710, Anabeth Elisabeth Martz was the second child born to a captain in the Prussian Army and his wife.  Due to her father's position, much of Ana's early life was spent learning to play string instruments with her older brother, being tutored in various fields by a governess, and being groomed for high society by her mother.  Her father was usually away and had little to do with her upbringing, which was for the best in a way.  Captain Martz was not a very nice man and when he came home he was downright terrible to his wife - who would usually have a rather large bruises by the time he left once again.  Ana's brother Fredrick kept her ignorant of such things until he left home to join the army when Ana turned 10.

Then Anabeth became painfully aware of the abuse, since her father began to slap her around as well when he was home.  She hated every moment of it, and began pleading with her mother to never let her father come back again.  Every time her mother brushed it off, and told Anabeth that they had nowhere to go and that they wouldn't be able to survive.  However, just before Ana's 13th birthday, her mother did try to fight back.  It ended with her taking a rather rough tumble down a stairwell - breaking her neck in the process.  Anabeth ran away from home that same night.

She hadn't gone far when she ran into a rather handsome stranger, who asked her what was wrong.  Naive, Anabeth told him everything and the stranger asked if she wanted him to help her take revenge - for a price.  Ana didn't care what the price was, and she agreed without even asking what the price would be.  So she took the stranger back to her house, where the stranger proceeded literally tear her father apart and drink his blood.  Anabeth was frozen in fear as she watched and promptly fainted when the stranger finally turned to her.

When she came to, she automatically knew something was wrong.  She wasn't in her own room, her clothes had been changed, and the stranger was sitting at the foot of her bed.  He calmly explained that he was a vampire - and now she was as well.  He then told her that she was to stay in his estate, that she belonged to him now and to not even think of escaping unless she wanted to die.  Needless to say, Anabeth wasn't terribly amused by this arrangement, but what could she do? She had nowhere else to go and didn't want to die.

For nearly twenty years she was a plaything for her sire, and subject to his every whim and desire.  She was his own little doll.  He kept her well fed of course, after all he couldn't have her getting weak.  For all intents and purposes, Ana was well taken care of. She hated every single moment of it.  The only times she was left alone was when he went to go find victims, and she was always locked away in a dark room during that time.  It was during those hours in that room that Ana began to hear voices in her head.  She always ignored those voices.

However, when her sire failed to return for nearly a week, that was when Anabeth decided to take a chance and ran away.  She was delighted when she discovered that a hunter had done her sire in.  From there, Ana quickly procured new clothes and a somewhat battered viola, and put as much distance between herself and her former sire's estate as possible.

It was shortly after this that she stared to see dead people in addition to hearing voices in her head.  She started telling them to go away - and was surprised to see that they did when she asked.  So, she started to ask them other things as well, like who they were and whatnot.  It surprised her when they answered.

Naturally, Ana thought she had lost her mind until she realized the things she was seeing and hearing matched up with people who had recently had met some very unfortunate ends.  So she took to just chattering with ghosts when she came across them.  This also resulted in her learning not to exhibit her powers in front of others after a few people tried to drag her to an insane asylum.

Once Ana came to terms with her power (And realized it wasn't going to go away any time soon), she simply spent the next several decades wandering the European continent.  She picked up whatever odd jobs would let her work after dusk (Ranging from cleaning tables, to grave digging, to playing viola on a street corner for change), and fed only when she needed to.  She never stayed in one place for too long though since she tended to make a spectacular mess when she did feed.

Of course with Europe embroiled in several wars and revolutions, it wasn't too difficult for her to find food.  Armies always needed people to tend to the dead and dying.  She did encounter other vampires from time to time, as well as werewolves, but for the most part Ana simply kept to herself.

Now in 1870 with German Unification beginning, Ana decided it was time to leave the continent for the time being - besides she had never been to England.  Shortly after arriving, she began to hear rumors about the Nocturne Manor, and quickly set off for London.  Who was she to pass up a free place to stay during the day?  Presently, she's taken to busking around the cemeteries in London.  It keeps her in practice, it gives her a chance to look for food and the ghosts never mind the music.

Likes:

- Playing the viola
- Gambling (She cheats)
- Stories
- Stuffed animals
- Creative death threats (Making them and receiving them)
- Revenge
- Cemeteries
- Killing individuals that royally tick her off

Dislikes:

- Porcelain dolls
- Constant reminders that she looks like a child
- Being touched without her permission
- Creepy older men
- Overly tall individuals (Anyone who's 6'0 + )
- Men who abuse their wives/children
- People who see through her 'cutesy' act when they first meet her
- Not being able to easily go out during the day (Veils are a pain in the rear)
- Her sire (Refuses to even talk about him)
- Discussing her history in any detail to anyone (Exceptions are Artemaus and Linnaeus )
- Russians (Long story)
- Austrians (Longer story)

Miscellaneous:

- Her viola is named Hans, people are not allowed to touch Hans without her permission under penalty of being relieved of their hands.
- Has kept several journals over the span of her life.  All are written in German and kept in her viola case.  She has those under the same 'don't touch' policy as Hans.
She has a very heavy German accent whenever she does attempt to speak English, or any other language for that matter.
- Does have some respect for hunters - after all if they hunt vampires, they must be brave (or very stupid).  That does not mean she likes hunters, no she's perfectly fine kicking their rears.
- Her opinion of werewolves is that 'They're just individuals who happen to turn into bloodthirsty monsters once a month.  Most women do that as well, and vampires, well, aren't we bloodthirsty monsters every day?  Why should I automatically dislike them when they're a lot like me?  I'll probably find reasons to dislike them as a person anyway~'
- Presently works at Eli's funeral home in addition to her own time spent busking for money.  Arguably, this work varies since her and Eli bicker like 10 year olds.
