History:
Born and raised in a military family, Mattaeus grew up with a no-nonsense attitude from the beginning. This served him well when he joined the German Army when he was 16. His life went rather well, he got married to a nice girl, progressed in the army, only to have it all go downhill when he turned 25. His wife had been pregnant, but after complications she and the child perished. Since he had abandoned his post to see his wife, Mattaeus was discharged from his position in the army. Soon after that, he acquired an old airship (And a certain multi-talented Russian) and quickly became a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Personality:
Cold, blunt and generally strict, Mattaeus isn't the most friendly individual (Or the most social). Despite this, he's normally a gentleman to most women (Most meaning everyone save the Spanish captain) and is a bit sexist in the way he thinks women should stay out of combat.

He does get rather annoyed by idiotic people though, finding them to be a waste of space (And his time). He gets even more annoyed when they make fun of his rather thick accent.

In terms of relationships, he isn't planning on replacing his late wife anytime soon and is rather sexually frigid to any woman's advances.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Level headed - He's the sort to stay cool in stressful (Or rowdy in the case of captain meetings) situations, and acts as the rather strict peace-keeper and negotiations (Until people start irritating him.

Strong - He's a fistfighter (Former swordsman), and rather good at it (Being 200lbs plus of muscle doesn't hurt). He's also quite good at moving things, and generally does a lot of the heavy lifting on his airship to keep in shape.

Strategy - With nearly 10 years in the army, you just know he's had experience with military strategy, especially fighting in the air.

Poor English - His first language was German, and he's still in the process of learning English. He understands it but speaks with a rather thick accent. 'Itz ist like dis....und dis ist only an example auf it....'

Easily Frustrated - He's convinced that most people he knows are idiots. Idiots frustrate him. Do the math.

Short Fuse - After dealing with said idiots mentioned above, he can only take so much stupidity.

Items:

Brass Knuckles/Pistol Combo - Rather useful in tough situations. Not only do they protect his fists in a fight, they leave a hell of a mark. And the guns are just useful as well.

English to German Dictionary - ...he really does need it, and finds that it's good to throw at people.

Guns - ....does this need an explanation? Being in the army, he's gotten good at shooting people.
